GLOBO TV is the most popular television network in Brazil. It covers the entire Brazilian territory and is also broadcast in satellite and cable channels around the world. On June 6, 2009, TV GLOBO aired a 5 minutes documentary about the Gems of the Earth project. The presenter, Serginho Groisman, is a famous late night showman. The video below presents the documentary with English sub-titles.
In this videoblog, JR, a visiting student, show his experience in his first night and second day in Tombadouro, one of the communities of the Gems of the Earth telecenter pilot project. He arrived in Tombadouro to participate in the II Annual Meeting of Gems of the Earth volunteers.
Marco writes "Ralph Heacock Junior, JR, a Drexel University graduate, is visiting with the Gems of the Earth pilot project. He arrived in Tombadouro, one of the communities of the pilot project, on September 1st, 2006, to participate in the II Annual Meeting of the Gems of the Earth Volunteers. JR is travelling around thr project and collecting his views on what is happening in the ground. Starting with this video, we are going to see a series of videoblogs of JR's experience in the Gems of the Earth project. All videoblogs are filmed and edited on location, using the communities' telecenters.
Mr. Phil Shapiro manages the Technology Center at the Takoma Park Public Library, Maryland. He is a long time supporter of CTCNET.ORG, one of the largest telecenter networks in the United States. Phil invited the founder of the Gems of the Earth Network, Marco Figueiredo, for a casual video interview at his facility in Takoma Park. He then posted the 54 minute video on the Google Videos web log. You can see the interview here. Phil also created a blog about the interview at http://talkingwithmarco.blogspot.com/
Last April 9, 2005 occurred the inauguration meeting of the Gems of the Earth Network (GOTENET). This meeting marked the partnership between GOTENET and the Loyola Center of Excellence in Telecenter Integration (LCETI). The Computer Science Department at Loyola Colege was represented by Dr. Roger Eastman, Dr. Roberta Sabin and Dr. Benokraitis. You can see pictures of the event in the PHOTO GALLERY. You can also find a presentation shown in the meeting in the DOWNLOADS section.

The temperature was high inside Caf? Citron on the evening of February 23rd in spite of the cold winds outside. The warmth started at the door, where friendly Brazilian faces greeted incomers with a broad smile and the question ?Are you here for the happy hour?? Upon answering with an enthusiastic ?Yes!?, guests were promptly given a shiny wrist band that would earn them the much-desired drink specials ? caipirinhas topping the list ? and the ticket stub that would win a few lucky ones select raffle prizes.
